Fay Ashcroft

Obituary of Fay Irene Ashcroft

With heavy hearts the family announces the passing of Fay on October 5, 2016 at the age of 88. She died at home in Kitchener, in the company of several siblings, after a lengthy battle with cancer. The eldest of a family of nine, Fay is survived by sisters and brothers Shirley (Alma Leeder), Wilf (Eileen), Freda (Bud Greaves), John (Margaret), George (Judy) and Mary Stephens as well as sister-in-law Bonnie. She was predeceased by brothers Lad (Edythe) and Donald. She will be fondly remembered by three generations of nieces and nephews, many of whom she left with special memories of great times together. Born on March 30, 1928 to parents Roy and Ruth (Lawrence) at the Ashcroft family home in Limberlost, north of Wiarton on the Bruce Peninsula, Fay went on to divide her life between homes in Wiarton and Kitchener. There, she spent 27 years working for Bell Canada in operator services. Retirement gave Fay more time to spend with her beloved garden, travel with friends and host the legion of nieces and nephews that clamoured for overnight stays. She had many close friends but will be missed especially by Mary Rouble, Betty Siegrist, Marlene Evanchuk and Norma MacKinnon. A special thanks to Bob and Betty Janse for their phone calls and kindness, and to brother George and sister Mary for their loving care, which enabled Fay to remain at home as her health waned. Family and friends may call at the GEORGE FUNERAL HOME, Wiarton on Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted from the funeral home on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. with visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Shannon Stewart officiating. Interment Edgehill Cemetery, Colpoy's Bay. In lieu of flowers, expressions of remembrance to Frank Street Baptist Church, the Bruce Trail Conservancy or the Wiarton Hospital would be appreciated.
