March 22, 1940 – November 14, 2022
It is with grateful sadness that we say goodbye to the most amazing son, man, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Howie/Dad/Grandpa will be greatly missed by wife Connie, and children Christy/Wayne, Craig/Sonja, Carrie/Bill. Grandchildren Ben/Claire, Bryce, Brad, Travis, Ryan/Sandra, Erick/Jessica, Majada, Zakk/Erin, Tyler/Emily, Jason. Great-grandchildren Maverick, Sloane, Sophia, Owen, Maisie and Warden. Pre-deceased by daughter Shelly at birth, parents Ernest and Grace(nee Asmussen) Frohlich. Survived by brother Norman.
To know Howie was to love him. He brought joy to everyone around him. He was a hardworking businessman and entrepreneur (Al’s Cartage, where he started driving trucks at the ripe old age of 12, and Guelph Utility Pole, an award-winning wood preservation business) and volunteer (far too many to list). He loved a good joke and fun-loving sarcasm was his specialty. No one was spared whether it was family or friends. He was a fisherman, a sailor, a snowmobiler, a hiker, a mushroom forager, and the list goes on. Howie was fearless and his many adventures reflected it.
Howie retired in 2000, spending his remaining years at Gillies Lake with his beloved wife. He was blessed to spend a total of 58 years at Gillies Lake with his tight-knit community on the Bruce Peninsula. He endured hard and often painful health issues in retirement, but never complained. He fought a long, hard battle but persevered with humble dignity. He was a ray of sunshine, an inspiration to all, and loved beyond measure. He dedicated his life to his family and friends and would give anyone in need the shirt off his back.
Howie, now in Heaven you are finally free from pain. We will love and miss you forever.
Many thanks to staff for care given by Dr. Adam Matheson, Lion’s Head Hospital and Golden Dawn LTC.
