Obituary of Dr. Evelyn Hastings Richardson
RICHARDSON, Dr. Evelyn Hastings passed away peacefully at John Joseph Place, Owen Sound Saturday afternoon September 9, 2017. Dr. Evelyn Richardson (nee Russell) formerly of Wiarton was in her 98th year. Beloved wife of the late Dr. Wm 'Bill' Richardson. Cherished mother of Sandy Richardson of Wiarton, David and his wife Debbie of St. Johns, Newfoundland and Anne Campbell and her husband Bruce of Milton. Loved grandmother of Krista (Donald), Nicole, Christopher and Jennifer and great grandmother of Clara and Evangeline. Predeceased by infant twin sister Cecile.
Evelyn was born in New Liskeard and lived on Wolfe Island and Williamsburg before her family returned to her father’s native Scotland. She received her medical degree from St. Andrew’s University in Scotland, and after graduation served in the RAMC as a medical officer until the end of the war when she returned to Canada as a war bride. She took postgraduate psychiatric training at Western University in London, where she also worked as a lecturer in neuroanatomy. She and her husband moved to Galt where both worked in the medical field – he in general practice and she as a psychiatrist with Correctional Services at the Girls Training School in Galt and Hillcrest School for Boys in Guelph. They retired to Georgian Bay in 1985; both were active in their church and the Wiarton community.
In respect of Evelyn's wishes, donation of her body to the Medical School at the Western University has taken place. The funeral service will be conducted from the GEORGE FUNERAL HOME, Wiarton, Friday morning at 11:00 a.m., with reception to follow. Interment Colpoy’s Bay Cemetery, at a later date. Expressions of remembrance to the Alzheimer Society or John Joseph Place, Memory Care Unit would be appreciated.
