Obituary of Elizabeth Leyland

Elizabeth Leyland (nee Hutchison) passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 31, 2020, at the age of 92 at Gateway Haven Long Term Care Home, Wiarton.

 

Elizabeth was born on November 4, 1927 in Toronto, Ontario to James and Kathleen Hutchison.  A high school teacher with the London, Ontario Board of Education, she taught typing, shorthand and office skills until 1989.  In her retirement Elizabeth was an active member of Ontario Retired Teachers Association and volunteered for the Wiarton Hospital, the Rotary Club of Wiarton and the Wiarton IODE.  She also had a passion for singing and started the Golden Tones, a singing group that provided  entertainment for seniors programs in the Grey Bruce area. Elizabeth enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and she and her loving husband Frank shared many happy memories travelling abroad and wintering in Florida.

 

Elizabeth is lovingly remembered by son, Warren (Lu Anne); daughter Susan; grandchildren, Jillian (Keith), Jennifer (Jordan) and James; great-grandchildren, Connor, Reid and Madeleine. Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband Frank and her sister Kathy.

 

In lieu of visitation, the family will be sharing a memorial slide show which will be posted on the funeral home website as soon as available.

 

A graveside funeral service will be conducted at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, 303 Riverside Drive, London on Thursday, November 5th at 11:00 a.m.  All those wishing to attend must complete the RSVP under service details on Elizabeth's page through the funeral home website.  All attendees must wear a mask and social distancing must be respected.

 

If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Wiarton Rotary Club, Wiarton IODE White Cloud Chapter or Friends of Gateway.
