Our Most Sincere Condolences to the Steacy Families. Remembering Evan as a kind hard working family man who loved to take time out and talk about everything going on in the world near and far! My brothers and I when we were teenagers all worked at the Steacy farm, sawmill and sugar bush. Evan and Grace always treated us with respect and kindness and made us feel like family. The best experience was the sugar bush, always something going on and lots of people dropping in.
Evan was all about the farming community and trying to make a difference. We farmed just down the road from the Stacey farm, so like others I could write a book about Evan and growing up in that area. All good stuff, He will be greatly missed!!

Dear Paul and Nora,
I grew up a mile south of Wiarton and feel I know your wonderful father well through his close association with my parents, Jack and Mildred Taylor. My mother, then Miss Preston, taught your father at what was called the Boat Lake School from 1938 to 1940. The Tributes regarding your father I've just read tell of Evan's warm personality and kindness, which I knew from my mother that he also showed at school in his young early years. I know as well that Evan was an exceptional student in academics but, because of his modest manner, you may not be aware of the fact that he took the Grade 8 Entrance Exam in 1939. This exam was given in those times to all students at the end of Grade 8 before their entry to High School. In 1939 when Evan took this exam, he was only 9 years, 11 months old.
Your parents and grandparents were such wonderful neighbours, and know that my father was "over at Steacys" A LOT to assist if needed in the maple sugar bush or the lumber mill, but I know too that my father just always thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful fellowship and so many laughs shared with Evan and his father Dick at the Steacy farm.
The old house we bought here near Alliston in 1973 needed major renovation, and it warms my heart to think about my father bringing down here the special "Steacy lumber" from the Steacy mill, which resides inside our home's walls today.
May your own memories also help you now ...

When I think of Evan so many words come to my mind. He was always a hard working person, had a smile and always was kind. He loved the farm and his family. Just a couple years ago I was driving on North Acres road and I found myself following a pick up truck with the 4 way flashers on. In front of it was a open cab tractor and some large square bales on an older wagon. My first thought was Evan Stacey and then I thought, No way he has to be 90. When I proceeded to pass the group I looked over and that is exactly who it was. He had the biggest smile on his face and was loving everything about this world and what he was doing. It warmed my heart to see him so happy. Thinking of the Steacy family at this difficult time.

Being Nora and Tom’s friend for 40 years, I have many fond memories of Evan. I could fill this page with his wise words and moments when the twinkle in his eye made me smile!
One of my favourite rituals was the annual shore to shore run. Evan and Nancy were always parked on the big hill to cheer us on (and one time pick me up). After, even though it was his birthday weekend, Evan always bought lunch at Dockside Willie’s for the whole gang. Evan always celebrated family and friends and he will be missed.

Our condolences to Nora, Paul and your families on Evan's passing. My late husband, Ken, and Evan were best friends all through public and high school, and truth be told, they spent too much time together at Lloyd's Smoke Shop in Wiarton playing pool. Ken had to retake his Grade 13 English, but I think Evan passed. The boys spent time together at each other's farms, sometimes shooting at pigeons in the hay loft, with the missed shots putting holes in the barn roof. Evan's dad was not pleased. Later, after we moved away, we still had a cottage in the area, and would visit with Evan, Grace and the kids. We bought lumber from Evan's mill for our cottage construction. We often stopped to visit and got caught up on local news and discussed national affairs. Evan was well read, articulate and happy to spend time chatting. Evan was a steward of the bush, and we would often see him on his tractor heading into his bushlots to take out a few cedars for his mill. He never cut the bush hard, knowing it would look after itself. Even though we lived a long distance apart for decades, we considered him a good friend and a good person. Lois Ottewell and family.

In memory of my grandfather, a man who inspired us all with his work ethic, care, and dedication to his family. Sorry I am across the world and not able to make it to the celebration of his life, but I am privileged to be here and I have this life because of everything he did for me and our family. The farm won't be the same without him but i'll take a walk in the closest thing we have to the bush this weekend thinking of him. Love Elizabeth and Graham

So many long time memories of the Steacy family brought to mind with the passing of Evan. Remember a bridal shower at their farm home in the front room for Grace when her and Evan were engaged to be married— wonder if that was a first memory of cups and saucers love. Remember going with Grace to her Mom’s apartment the second floor up above a store in Owen Sound on Second Ave and it would be close to the area of the Commerce bank. What a wonderful Mom she was and something tingles in my mind she was making the wedding dress for Grace for a fitting. All the trips made to the sugar bush maple syrup building and Dick would be there watching the syrup making with Elgin and Leonard—and have a photo to look at of them. Going to the saw mill with logs and then getting the lumber. Always time for a good long country visit that could happen on the side road when meeting. B remember when Neil was born. Memories are to treasure for ever.
