Obituary of Doug Linklater

John Douglas Linklater (March 20 1951 – March 19 2011)John Douglas Linklater of Red Bay, Ontario (hometown - Kincardine, Ontario) passed away after a short illness on March 19 2011 in Wiarton, Ontario. Doug died just one day before his 60th birthday.Doug was born in Toronto and was the beloved son of Harold and Nora Linklater (both deceased) of Kincardine, the dear father of Jesse Linklater of Kincardine and Dane Linklater of Orillia, the beloved brother of Elizabeth (Liza) Linklater and brother-in-law of James Trottier, currently of Manila, the Philippines and the dear step-son of Helen Linklater (now deceased). Doug was married to Dianne Linklater of Kincardine for 13 years. He will also be dearly missed by his uncles and aunts, Ken and Reita Linklater of Kincardine, Bryce and Alma Linklater of Jarvis Ontario, and Gordon and Joan Linklater of Toronto and his stepsisters Helen (and Bert) Wray of Durham and Marg (and Gerald) Nichol of Brampton, his cousins, and all of their families, as well by his faithful dog, Buddy.Doug started work at Ontario Hydro at the Douglas Point Nuclear Generating Station at 19 and worked there until his retirement in 2001. If Doug had been asked at his retirement what he wanted to do if he had only 10 more years to live, his wish would have been to live at his beloved cottage on Crab Cove near Red Bay on Lake Huron. And this is exactly what he did during the warmer months, with winters spent at Sauble Beach. The cottage had been built by his father Harold who had loved it as well. In his younger years, Doug loved riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycles and he continued to enjoy his music and cooking. We would like to thank the doctors and medical staff from the Grey Bruce Health Services of South Bruce Peninsula and Owen Sound as well as University Hospital in London. Doug’s ashes will be interned in late August/early September (around Labour Day weekend) and a memorial service and remembrance party will be held at that time.  Arrangements entrusted to the GEORGE FUNERAL HOME, Wiarton.Donations made in Doug’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society or Big Brothers Association would be appreciated by the family as expressions of sympathy.Condolences may be sent to the family through the link below.I would like to Send Condolences Back to Notices Home | History | Services | Our Facilities | Notices | Contact Us | Links
