Obituary of Harold Silk

SILK, Haroldof Wiarton passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 26, 2010 with his family by his side in his 77th year. Cherished husband and best friend of Eleanor for 54 years. Loving father of Dr. Steven Silk and his wife Dr. Raelynn Cancel and Patricia Silk all of Wiarton. He will be sadly missed by his sister-in-law Grace Silk of Ottawa, brother-in-law William (Evelda) Love of Calgary and numerous nephews, nieces, and many treasured friends. Harold was predeceased by his parents Elsie (Frizell) and James Silk, brother James and infant sisters Ethel and Elsie.Harold and his wife Eleanor purchased the Pacific Hotel in Wiarton in October, 1964 which they operated until October 2003. He was also very active serving as a Town Councillor for many years and Mayor of Wiarton from 1982 to 1988. Harold was a member of the Masonic Cedar Lodge #396 for almost 40 years as well as the Rameses Shriners, having served as President of the local Ramoca Club in 1994. He was a man who loved people and was widely known for his ready smile and quick wit.Visitation will be held at the GEORGE FUNERAL HOME, Wiarton on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. There will be a masonic service on Wednesday at 6:45 p.m. The funeral service to celebrate Harold's life will be held at Trinity Anglican Church, 491 Gould Street, Wiarton on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Brad Mittleholtz officiating. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations made to Trinity Anglican Church or Shriner's Children's Hospital would be appreciated by the family as expressions of sympathy.
