HOLMES, Fredof Miller Lake passed away suddenly on Monday, October 22, 2007 in his 93rd year. Beloved husband and best friend of Marlene for 34 years. Cherished father of Sharon Kelly and her husband Brian of St. Catherines, Carol Hambley and her husband Gerry of Burlington, Tracy Swan and her husband Robert of Ottawa and Austin Holmes and his wife Jennifer of Windsor. Special grandfather to Richard, Jason, Virginia, Nicole, Joshua, Ashley, Jacob and Aidan and great grandfather to Serena. He will be sadly missed by his sister Evelyn McPherson of Forest. Fred was predeceased by his parents John Henry and Susanna (Baynton) Holmes, 6 brothers and 2 sisters.Fred served as a Warrant Officer during WWII connected with the Signals Band and 1st Division Infantry Band. Following the war he was active with the Queen's York Rangers, Irish Regiment Band, Artillery Band, Queen's Own Rifles, and Service Corps Band all of Toronto, Lincoln & Welland Regiment of St. Catherines and Windsor Military Band. He was Music Director for the Beamsville Concert Band and Music Director for the Music Society of St. Catherines. Fred was a life member with the Royal Canadian Legion being active for many years with the Legion in Belle River and Branch 290 of Tobermory. He loved working with wood and carpentry and enjoyed many hours on the golf course.Visitation will be held at the Davidson Chapel, 71 Main Street, Lion's Head on Thursday, October 25, 2007 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. There will be a Legion Service on Thursday at 6:45 p.m. The funeral service to celebrate Fred's life will be held at the Chapel on Friday, October 26th at 2:00 p.m. Interment in Arkona Cemetery on Saturday, October 27th at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements entrusted to the GEORGE FUNERAL HOME, Wiarton.
