Obituary of Evelyn Mackenzie

MACKENZIE, EvelynSurrounded by her family, Evelyn Mackenzie passed away peacefully at home in Gateway Haven, Wiarton at the age of 92 on June 26th, 2006. Predeceased by her loving husband James in 1985, her daughter Sally Gilbert in 1980 and her twin sister Ethelwyn (Eccy) Patterson in 1977. Also predeceased by two brothers Charles and Donald MacGregor and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. Beloved mother of Barry and his wife Nancy of London. Proud Grandmother of Debbie Mackie (Jerry), Robert Gilbert (Melanie), Tracey Hepburn (Don) and Tara Phillips (Trevor). Cherished Great-Grandmother of Amber, Jenna, Kaley and Paige Mackie, Kyle and Daniel Gilbert, Barrett and Justin Hepburn and Ashley Phillips. She will be missed by her son-in-law Gail Gilbert and sister-in-law Jean Carson.Evelyn was a respected teacher and mentor, positively influencing the lives of many young people. She was active in the Clavering church community, loved golf, bridge, travel and was on the winning team of the 1984 Ontario Seniors Curling Championship. A special thank-you to the staff of Gateway Haven for their gentle care and compassion for Evelyn and her family during her final days.Friends and family are invited to share their memories of Evelyn during visitation at the GEORGE FUNERAL HOME on Thursday, June 29th from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The funeral service to celebrate Evelyn's life will be held at the funeral home on June 30th, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Audrey Brown officiating. Interment to follow at Bayview Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Clavering United Church or Friends of Gateway as expressions of sympathy.
