I only learned today(Nov 3/16)of Shirley's passing. I lived on the same floor as Shirley for many years and tried to remain in touch after I moved. We would have these long chats in the hall when I came home late from work, while she was doing her walking exercise. She loved going out with her friends, enjoying dinner and/or theatre. I also learned that her father was my math teacher in elementary - He was an amazing teacher who I treasured, so I guess it was destiny that I met her.
She ensured to accomodate us with a kosher meal for me and my sister when she invited us to her home I was so happy that she came over to my new home and always the classy lady , had these beautiful flowers delivered. Even though we lived in the same building, she would ensure to mail by post a Jewish New Year card- again, a class act!
The last time I spoke with Shirley , she indicated that she had some walking challenges so I left some notes at her home on exercise and pool program in the area(no idea if she in fact received) Tried reaching Shirley many times ,calling but with no one picking up. ( thought maybe she was at the cottage/?)Time slips away, got busy but she was on my mind. Yesterday, I became concerned when I heard the phone was out of service. After doing some detective work, I learned from a neigbhour of Shirley's passing and am so sad.
I regret not being aware of her illness as visiting her would have been a priority. I told Shirley that if she ever needed anything, to not hesitate to call but given her generous nature, she probably didn't want to be a "bother."
She was an amazing person, what a privilege to have known her. She will be missed by many.
