My very dear Canadian cousins,
I am so sorry I cannot be with you today as you celebrate and give thanks for my sister Buffy / your mother-Granny Sally’s life and faith. You are all very much in our thoughts and prayers as you gather this morning (your time!)
Buffy lived a most interesting and often very challenging life on three different continents and in three very contrasting countries – India in the days of the Raj, England during and just after World War 2, and Canada as it changed from a very simple to a much more developed nation. I cannot imagine how demanding and difficult life must have been for her and Johnny living in Stainer in the 50s & 60s. And losing a child in tragic circumstances is every mother’s worst nightmare.
But through it all her faith in and love for her Saviour Christ sustained and enriched her, and by His Grace she lived to know so many joys in you, her beloved children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
I so wish I could be with you, but Ruth and I will keep a time of prayer, Bible reading and reflection as you gather over there. And I said special prayers for Buffy in my three churches yesterday, as you can see from our Weekly Notices - https://wrington.net/allsaints/pewsheet/
May I close this condolence with these words:
Into your loving care, O merciful Saviour,
we commend our beloved Buffy / Sally.
Acknowledge, we pray,
a sheep of your own fold,
a lamb of your own flock,
a sinner of your own redeeming.
Enfold her in your arms of mercy,
in the blessed rest of everlasting peace,
and in the glorious company of the saints in light. Amen.

Sally and family will be remembered by me for many, many occasions of hospitality on the family farm at a time of personal formation as a young man - memories and lessons held still to this day. To Sally's family, my respectful thoughts of all of you and sorrow for the fact of Sally's passing, but also to have been blessed by her life those many years ago. 'Chuck'
