So very sad to hear of Gale passing away. I worked at Woch for more than 10 yrs and saw Gale about 3 times a month and he always had a "cheeky" comment for me.
He will be missed so much as he was a good man with his own ways.

Dear Dave, Jeff & Family,
I can't bear the thought of driving into the W.O.C.H parking lot and not see your dad grinning at me from the cab of his truck. You may know I hired him for 2 days & he stayed for over 20 years. Amongst his personal belongings I hope you may find a Mickey Mouse watch. I gave it to him to commemorate working for myself, Paul & Shayne for all that time. He always would grumble that he worked for "a Mickey Mouse" outfit so I thought it a fitting gift.
He was a crusty fart but I learned early on he enjoyed watching someone squirm when he'd bluntly give a biting opinion or make a off -colour comment, so I gave as good as I got from him. And I loved him for it. He was real, he was kind & beneath his quirky gruffness he was kind. It's a commodity lacking in most people. That authentic "I'm who I am & if you don't like it....welll, you know what he'd say.
We'll miss his supreme work ethic. It's hard to find a person to do a good job and give his best job after job. It'll be impossible to replace him.
I don't often get into the office but I was there last week & had time to chat with him. He told me he was looking forward to going up to Lions Head to be with you. His exact words were, "It's not often we get together. I'm looking forward to a weekend off if you bastards let me." He was where he wanted to be. With his sons at the cottage.
I won't go on but I have to say I'm saddened & ashamed I haven't one picture of us together but I'll have him in my minds eye. Especially the final time we passed in our vehicles. Me leaving, he coming in. I flipped him the bird, something I always did. And as usual he laughed. THAT'S how I'll always remember him.
I'm achingly sorry for your loss,
With the utmost respect,
Joyce (Klaver)

I am sorry for your loss. The loss of a father, and brother is a hard thing to deal with.
I remember him as a nature lover, as well as a hunter and fisherman, who enjoyed his times on the Peninsula.
He will be missed.

My deepest condolences to Jeff, Dave and the rest of Gale's family. It was always nice to catch up on the North of the Checkerboard news when I saw Gale at the Tim Horton's in Waterloo. He will definitely be missed at Timmy's where he enjoyed his morning coffee and chatting with all the regulars, he was like Norm Petersen from Cheers "Everyone knew his name". RIP Gale
