Many fond memories of Larry's professional and personal touch to his job as captain. He took the time from his schedule to examine your issues. He led by example, great memory for names and places and a full hold of sea stories for those us with ears. He is missed, by those of us privileged to have sailed with him. Larry's memories will live on whenever two CSLers meet.

Mrs. McMillan, Stacey, Trevor,
It is with great sadness that I write to you with condolences about the passing of Captain McMillan. He was not only one of the most professional and respected Captains that has ever commanded a ship on the Great Lakes, but more importantly, he never left home without bringing the love and pride he had for his family and sharing it with his crew, his colleagues, and his many, many, many friends. He will be greatly missed, but always admired by the countless people in his life that he mentored, guided, and positively influenced. I am so sorry.

To the family of Capt. Larry McMillan. It is with great sadness that I hear of Capt McMillan's passing.
I very much enjoyed the company of Capt. McMillan, and am an ardent admirer of his seamanship and ship handling skills.
He is among the Top Ten seaman that I have encountered; always a gentleman and a Captain to his core.
Rest well Captain McMillan.

Dear JoAnn and family
Kay and I would like to pass on our thoughts and prayers on your loss. Capt Larry was a respected leader and a good shipmate. I had the good fortune to work with Larry on many different vessels over the years, the first was in 1976 on the Frontenac where he was teamed up with Capt "Full Ahead" Fred Hopkins and 1st Mate Ken Ford. Larry could be depended on to run a safe ship and to inject some well timed humour to keep us smiling. Larry will be missed.

My relationship with Larry goes back to the spring of 1974 on the old CSL steamer Gleneagles and later the Tarantau. That year I had the privilege of meeting and the beginning of what was to become, not only a shipmate, but a true friend. From that time on, we were together on various ships and over the years I realized he was a special person. Kind, fun to be with, always thinking of his family, there for you when needed and very knowledgeable in his profession. Larry retired before I did and I was so pleased that he would come out of his well- earned retirement to relieve me each navigation season for my two vacation periods. This went on three or four years until I retired myself. Each time, I knew the ship was under the command of a decent and skillful Captain. and knew that when off, the ship and her superior crew would be handled well in a very difficult trade.
Reading through the condolences, you can feel the warm feelings in the writings, Jeanette and I always felt that "You Bet`cha", Larry was truly a wonderful man. Our hearts go out to Joann, family and friends left behind, you were truly blessed.

Captain McMillan was the first Captain I ever had the pleasure to sail with. He had such a profound impact on those who worked with him. He would teach anyone who showed interest, help anyone who needed assistance & guide anyone who lost their way. He set the bar so incredibly high of what I thought a Captain should be, he was a true CSL'er. God bless you and the McMillan family.
"Three Long & Two Short"
Sincerely,
Captain Jason Church

Dear Jo Ann. I am very sad this morning to hear of Larry's passing. I think back to the summer of 2016 when I met with you and him and spent the afternoon talking about his career and life at CSL. It was a very special moment for me and I was glad I was able to see him. I know it has not been very easy the last months with Larry's illness but today he is at peace and we should all be thankful that his suffering is over.
Larry had a very special life and we should all be thankful for that. At these times this is where family and friends help heal the pain and sorrow and remember the good times.
Kathi and I send our deepest condolences to you and your family.
Sincerely,
Tom Brodeur

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to Jo Anne and Family at this difficult time. Larry was a true gentleman and will forever be carried in the hearts of many who have had the pleasure of working with him. After sailing as his 3rd, 2nd, 1st mate and alongside him as reserve Captain, he passed on to me a great deal of knowledge. Not only professional, but personal as well. He was a natural teacher and mentor! Many times I've felt blessed during my career. Whenever faced with a difficult decision, be it with crew, weather, confined harbours, etc., I would simply ask myself "What would Larry do in a situation like this?" and he would pull me through every time. God bless you Capt. McMillan. May you rest in peace and God Bless your family!
Sincerely,
Capt. Joseph M. Pero
