Eleanor Silk

Obituary of Eleanor Silk

SILK, Eleanor Mary passed quickly and quietly into the arms of the Lord and rejoined her husband on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at the age of 84.

Eleanor was an outgoing person who made every effort to fully experience life.  As a teenager, the highlight of being a finalist in the Miss Toronto pageant was dancing with the legendary Gene Kelly. She married her soul-mate Harold Silk in 1956, and worked at Bell Canada in Toronto as an operator until the couple purchased the Pacific Hotel in Wiarton, which they ran from 1964 until 2003.

She had a passion for singing and was a proud, founding member of the Wiarton Community Choir for 50 years. A devout parishioner of Trinity Anglican Church, Eleanor was active in the church council, choir, altar guild, and hospitality group. She was also a member of the local chapter of the I.O.D.E.

As someone who loved to travel, she excitedly explored such diverse places as Russia, Morocco, Ireland, Canada (east and west), and many cities throughout the United States. Yet, one of her favourite trips was an annual pilgrimage to the Stratford Festival with her dear friend Luella Boswell.

Always up for lively discussion, she enjoyed following current events and politics, yet found simple pleasure completing the Word Jumble and Crossword in the daily newspaper.

Eleanor will forever be remembered for her welcoming smile and infectious laugh. She was a kind and generous person. She was a loving soul. She was a true lady.

She is survived by her two loving children: Steven Silk (Raelynn Cancel) and Patricia Silk. Eleanor will be sadly missed by her brother William Love (Evelda) of Calgary and her sister-in-law Grace Silk of Ottawa, as well as numerous nephews, nieces and a multitude of fine friends. She was preceded in death by the love of her life Harold Richard Silk (2010), as well as her parents James and Nancie (Fox) Love, brother Morgan Love and brother-in-law James Silk.

Visitation will be held at the GEORGE FUNERAL HOME, Wiarton on Friday, September 28th from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.  The Going Home Celebration will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior beginning at noon at Trinity Anglican Church, 491 Gould Street, Wiarton.  To honour Eleanor’s memory, please wear colourful clothing.https://ssl.gstatic.com/ui/v1/icons/mail/images/cleardot.gif
