My condolences to Don's family.
Don was the best history teacher ever and also my homeroom teacher for several years at BPDS.
Hundreds of books lined the library room at the side of the classroom, showcases with lead soldiers and other artifacts were always present to gaze into. We built diaramas, catapults and re-staged historical events in class.
W5 + How was his mantra and our guideline for passing the tests as we covered different historical eras.
Don could speak on any historical topic and would grab the particular book from his library to illustrate.
He made history come alive for many of us.
David Rodgers, Lion's Head

Don and Susan are wonderful neighbours and friends. Don's love of history and willingness to share his love inspired many students to seek higher education, to strive to remember and not repeat the horrors of the past. Whether a wave while working in the yard, or a conversation while walking the dog, his humour and caring will be missed on the north end of McNaughton street.
Daniel, Jonathan, Alex and ourselves will miss Don and look forward to supporting Susan as they keep the property beautiful and honour Don's memory.

We were blessed to have Mr McCallum as our history teacher in the late 80 -90's such a passionate man who saw the best in each student and instilled the knowledge of history through creating - whether painting little soldiers or creating dioramas. My cherished memory was when a few of us skipped his class and were playing ping pong in the cafeteria instead of working on group project. Mr McCallum found us and challenged us to a game - if we lost back to work and if we won we continue. Our project got completed that day. So thankful he took the time to come and visit last summer and share one last conversation. My condolences to the family.

Don was my history teacher at BPDS all of my highschool years. He was also my homeroom teacher for those years as well. That was in the 70's. He made history come alive for his students.
He was a fun teacher with a very intelligent mind who made our days fun and interesting. I liked him and had the utmost respect for him as a teacher and just a great man.
I ran into him several times when I was back in Stokes Bay in recent years and he always knew me.
He is certainly be missed
