Obituary of Bruce Smith

SMITH, Malcolm Bruce, formerly of Stokes Bay, passed away peacefully with family present on August 10, 2020 in his 95th year.  Survived by his children, Steven (Sharon) of Beamsville, Shelley Ingold (Wade) of Glencoe and Chris of Woodstock.  He will be sadly missed by 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.  Bruce was predeceased by his wife of 58 years Vera (nee Stevens), his parents Jeanne (nee MacKenzie) and Malcolm Smith, sister Peggy, brother Barry and 1 grandchild.  Bruce enlisted in the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve in 1943 and served aboard the HMCS Uganda until the end of the war in 1945.  He was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #202, Lion's Head.  Bruce worked on Great Lakes steamships starting as an oiler in 1946 and working his way through the ranks to become Chief Engineer from which position he retired in 1983.  He taught Marine Engineering during the winters at Georgian College in Owen Sound.  In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. 

 

A graveside service will be conducted at Stokes Bay Cemetery on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at 2:30 p.m.  Pastor Peter Longmore officiating.  All those wishing to attend must register in advance.  Please go to the Service Information tab and complete the RSVP.  

 

In accordance with Covid-19 regulations, all those attending are required to wear a mask and practice social distancing.
