Gordie was always so kind. He used to come visit my mom and dad when he was at Guelph Univeristy. He bought me a very large stamp collection album and teased me. When I was just 3 years younger than him I thought he was so cool. As adults mostly we connected on Facebook. He always had the most compassionate kindest view. The world would be a better place if more folks were like Gordie

Our family is from Cincinnati, Ohio and have owned and more recently rented a cottage on Dyers Bay for our vacations. On more than a few occasions something broke that would really interfere with a short vacation - electric, toilet, hot water - whatever. Gordon was there within hours each time we needed his help. Always with a friendly generous manner. We have heavy hearts for Gordon's family, neighbors and loved ones. The Sampsons

Dear Edith, Jenna and Jake,
I can't imagine your shock and grief at loosing your dear life partner and father. My heart truly goes out to all of you. Gord was a gem, truly one of the best I was blessed to know.
When I was letting some friends know about Gord's death, I wrote the following.
The warmest of hugs and care to all of you.
Sarah Martin
Gord worked hard all his life as a builder...he built my place up north.
He was kind, thoughtful, generous with his employees and everyone he
met. He had a natural wisdom, he was an elder. Gord used to sign up for
communication from groups that he totally disagreed with, but he wanted
to know what they were thinking, so he could converse with them. He had
lots of plans for retiring next year.....he had "inventions" to build,
and was involved in developing an eco-afforable housing area in Owen
Sound, not far from where he lived.
What a terrible loss, he had so many more lives to touch. I imagine anyone who came in
touch with him, would have left feeling cared about....healed abit.
I will miss him very much and I think the world just lost one of it's
best.
Love,Sarah
He once sent me this poem he wrote:
With humble heart the friendly come
and sit in silence with the glum,
And as they sit, and be, and wait,
their presence there can alter fate
As when with courage, darkness shares
and in so doing show they care
With this is offered simple hope
That moves another soul to cope.

Good Gord will be missed so much by us both, we will miss him driving by a few times each day at the Applewood Inn waving at times and stoping once in a while for a chat and usual a few laughs and share of the local news . His sense of humour and warm-hearted attitude towards people and life in general, will be greatly missed. He was a big help in various building and repair projects over the last 33 years here in Dyers Bay and it was just so comforting to know he and Edith live just up the road. So sad he left us all so early

Gord held a special position in the life of our family because he built, and helped us design, our cottage. For more than twenty years he remained our friend. Whenever we needed advice, whenever there was a problem we couldn’t handle ourselves, he was the first person we’d call. Knowledgable, creative, funny, ethical, engaged — he was also a man of many enthusiasms. He taught us everything we know about the picking and eating of wild mushrooms. The sound of his laughter, especially when he talked about Jake and Jenna, will always be with us.
Deepest sympathy to Edith and the entire family.

We have fun memories of when he helped us hoist a bathtub up an empty stairwell and end up in a pile of laughter, and Gord made THE BEST Miss Dyers Bay in our annual parade; riding on the hood of a car in a woman's bathing suit. As a cousin of Gordie’s mom, I watched him grow to become a strong, educated and interesting adult, with a sensitivity to people, and care for the world. Really, he was a Renaissance man. Geography kept us apart in most of his adult years, but his warmth and humanity were front and center each time we met. His passing leaves a void in all our lives. My sympathies to you all

Edith, Jake and Jenna,
I am deeply saddened for your sudden loss. Gord was a one of kind. I have so many great memories growing up in Dyers Bay beside you guys. Gord was always willing to bring Noel and I along to join in your adventures. I will never forget all those trips to the dump, finding hidden treasures or the time when he came outside in his undies in the middle of the night to scare away the bear while we were camping out on the lawn. I loved when he took us for all those walks in the woods to look for mushrooms and for always letting us use his tools and nails to build the best tree fort ever. He had the best chuckle and a wardrobe full of “dad joke” T-shirt’s. Gord really was a “Fungi”
Dyers bay won’t be the same without him. I am so grateful that I got to see him and catch up a little by the fire this past summer. You will surely be missed Gord ♥️

Edith, Jake, and Jenna, Ray and I are so sorry to hear of Gord’s passing. We remember him as being so engaged in our project to build an addition to our home on Gillies Lake. We also remember when you all came as a family to see photos of Costa Rica before you travelled there on your own family adventure. He and I shared a love of Tai Chi and I will always remember his dedication in working hard to master the many moves taught to us by our wonderful Tai Chi master, David Gierak. My deepest condolences to the Lawson's and family. Gord was the very first person I met in Dyer's Bay when I came to peek at a property for sale. The owner was not there but Gord was out in front doing a vista trim - and came up onto the deck and took me around the property of his own accord talking about the work and maintenance that had been done, etc. and I was convinced! He was like that - friendly and accommodating. The second time I met Gord was with his wife travelling on the ferry coming back from Manitoulin. We didn't initially recognize one another but after talking for a good while he asked me where I was headed after docking and when I said Dyer's Bay we both made the connection and had a good laugh! This news saddens me greatly and the community will certainly feel his loss for many years to come. Sincerely, Cynthia Brown.
