Gail Relf posted a condolence
Monday, July 5, 2021
I wish to send my most heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Peter McHugh.
I was shocked and heart broken to learn this week of Peter's sudden passing. I had never actually gotten to meet Peter in person we had just spoken recently when he finally had gotten his DNA results from Ancestry. We have spent the last few years comparing and sharing our family information on Ancestry and as he made me an editor on his account I had often added new info and waited to hear from him. Peter's grandfather and mine were brothers. His love and pride in his family was wonderful to pick up on as we talked, especially for his littlest pride and joy.
I know that your wonderful memories will soon make the heavy weight of this loss become a lighter load to carry.

To Megan & precious grandson Jase, Junior, Jackie & all of Peter’s loved ones...very sorry to hear of Peter’s passing.
We had the privilege of meeting and knowing Peter during the years I worked at Caframo with Jackie through social events or visits at the house and later on occasional chats in the grocery store. He was always willing to cook something that had been prepared or pick up our take out order and bring it to work for us, in his calm laid back manner, very generous with his time, always taking our good natured teasing in his stride!
There are no words to express the loss you feel right now...we pray you find some comfort in the precious memories you share.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this difficult time.
Sincerely Clarice & Jim Shaw

Peter was a good friend and neighbour for 30 years, our “cross the fence” chats and visits will be sadly missed. Taylor Street Tramps attributed many wins and year end championships to his pitching and prowess batting. His laugh was memorable, as was his dandelion management, lol. Hello Goodbye, our friend. I will always remember Uncle Peter as a big, silly, caring uncle who was always tinkering on something only to not finish it. It was a pleasure and honour to have had the time with him growing up as I did.
To the Mc Hugh family I am so sorry for your loss, as heaven has gained another angel.
Tons of memories to look back on as he will be missed greatly. RIP Uncle Peter.

Peter was a great spirit and an amazing mentor to look up to. From the day I transferred to the owen sound depot, especially when going through hard times, he was always in good spirits and knew how to turn our day around or Crack a joke when you needed it the most. He helped make work feel more like a family and would never turn me away when I had questions about anything ,especially union questions! My heart and support goes the family. May you rest in peace peter.

I remember the day Peter transfered to the Owen Sound Post office. I have worked with him ever since. We shared a lot of laughs and memories in the 35 years we worked together . Also went through a lot of strikes together some good some very bitter. Peter was a very kind and compassionate man who would never walk by you in the morning without asking "Hey how's it going?" or inquire about your well being and always willing to listen to your problems. Peter loved a good joke and loved to laugh . and when they were bad days he would tell a joke or share a story or a memory that would make it better. I will miss him dearly and memories we had of our early days at the post office together . And Peter kept us honest by reminding us of what the union regulations were, and that they were for the better of us a group colllectively. Peter will surely be missed for the tireless hours he put in working as our union president. I have thought of him many a time during the last few days and my thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to his family . I hope his family can take solace in the fact their father touched many a persons life in a positive manner. And he was a man taken from us far too early. R.I.P Peter I enjoyed the time we had together and your friendship.

Carl and Ruth Myatt are thinking of all of you at this time. So sad to hear of the passing of Peter. I worked with Pete for a number of yrs. after he arrived at the Owen Sound Post Office. We never agreed all the time with one another but respected one another's opinion. He went way too soon and was really dedicated to his job. May you rest in eternal peace.

I have worked with Pete over the last 4.5 years in my capacity as Regional Union Representative. We spoke almost weekly and I considered him a good friend. it was evident to me that Pete cared for the Workers he represented and passionately argued on they're behalf so that everyone was treated in a fair manner. He had a calm, relaxed, easygoing personality and was well liked by all. Pete was not one to stay idle. He was very active with his hobbies (Red Truck, model trains, and especially outdoor activities involving nature). Pete always went out of his way to help others especially with vehicle troubles. Pete loved his children deeply, always having they're best interest at heart. Pete eye's lit up when speaking of his grandson and time spent with him. Pete was an exceptional person and will be missed deeply. He affected many lives in a positive way. I will miss his laugh and how he made me laugh. My condolences to his family, friends, and coworkers.
