Mary Jane Eichenberger

Obituary of Mary Jane Eichenberger

EICHENBERGER, Mary Jane with family by her side at Grey Bruce Health Services, Lion's Head on Monday, January 24, 2022.  Mary Jane Eichenberger (nee Dawson) .... commonly known as Aunt Mary Jane Beautiful Lady to many .... of Barrow Bay in her 87th year.  Beloved wife of the late Alan 'Ike' Eichenberger.  Cherished mother of Wayne and his wife Dale of Southampton and Kathy Hellyer and her husband Steven of Barrow Bay.  Much loved 'Momma Jane' of Danielle (Dave), Nicky (Ryan), Kyle (Kara), Adam and Brandon (Abby) and 'Gramma Jane' of Beau and Quin.  Dear sister of Ron Dawson of Barrow Bay and sister-in-law of Marilyn Holfeld of Vancouver, B.C.  Predeceased by parents Viola (nee Jacobs) and Alex Dawson, sisters-in-law June Dawson and Shirley Eichenberger and brothers-in-law Don (Katherine), Weldon (Barbara) and Kenneth.

Mary Jane, with her husband Ike, permanently moved to Barrow Bay in 1967. They took over the operation of the Barrow Bay General Store. Later, Mary Jane was a councilor with Eastnor Township for two terms. She was a strong advocate for the quality of water in Little Lake. Mary Jane was a member of Lioness and later a Red Hat. She enjoyed being part of the community whether through a non-profit group or hosting anniversary & birthday parties with a personalized song or two included. She took great pride in her flower gardens and in her later years continued to stay connected with long distance friends through facebook and enjoyed happy hour with her neighbours on her deck. Summer afternoons were always supervised by Mary Jane who ensured life jackets were worn, fires put out, all the appropriate songs were sung by the campfire, and there was no rest until the last of the fishermen returned to the safety of Little Lake through the channel.

Her absence will leave a huge void in the Barrow Bay triangle.
