Sincere condolences to Wayne and Brett and families.
I knew Karen from her days teaching at Sault College and from her work at our hospital. She always had time for a little chit chat whenever she ran into you. Her smile was contagious. She was a beautiful person and will be missed by many. May she rest in peace.

Karen - truly you have been a wonderful friend. I will miss you, our visits, our chats.
After a friendship of over 35 years; the memories, the laughs, the cries, the walks, the whining and the wine are a part of me and will stay with me forever.
I have admired your strength over the years and the grace in which you carried yourself. Particularly over the last two years.
May you find a forever sunny beach with your beautiful Barbara, sand between your toes.
Until we meet again.
Lots of Love

Karen was a classmate of mine from grade 4 until grade 13.
One winter when I was a teenager, my father announced to me that the Ruffet family was coming out to our farm on the Oliphant road to get a Christmas tree. I was told to go out and find them a good one. We had about 220 acres of forest which I knew every inch of and I picked out the best Christmas tree that I could find for them.
The Ruffet's wanted to witness the harvest like the Grizzwald family in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.. Their entire family showed up and my father and I took them back to the tree I had picked out. My dad asked them on site if it was ok and Lloyd and Evelyn looked at the tree and then to Karen who shook her head "no". My heart absolutely sunk.
There was Karen, the prettiest girl in our class, dressed like a Russian princess, standing in a foot of snow, letting me know that my best was not going to be good enough for her. I glanced at my dad who just grinned and gave me that that knowing look of his.
He realized immediatedly that I had not anticipated the necessity of having a second choice and had none. "Find them another one" he said and off we all went, trudging through the snow searching for that ellusive, perfect tree for Karen.
We must have looked at a dozens others until we finally found one to Karen's liking. I cut it down for them and dragged it back to their car in our driveway.
As they were leaving, Karen looked at me with those dark eyes of hers and gave me the tinyest little smile.
Lesson learned and heart melted. Gone but never to be forgotten. We miss you Karen. Marty
