Please forgive me if this note bothers you. One of my weird habits is to read obits and tributes, when I read the part about roast beef well done, I groaned. My mother always overcooked the beef. We always had it for supper on Sunday. Therefore, we had roast beef sandwiches for school lunch on Monday. I got so tired of chewing and chewing and chewing dried beef, I started to put cucumber slices on the sandwich to add some moisture and speed up the chewing process and not be late for my next class.
I am 70 (born in Chapleau) and I never eat roast beef sandwiches.! Barbara Butler Ottawa

To my Bestie Trudy, Fred and families. My heart is broken for your loss. You two took such good care of your Mom and she was very proud of you both. I'm really going to miss this chickie-poo. I worked with her for many years at the restaurant and we shared many stories and laughs. I enjoyed my visits with her at Hayes and the Golden Dawn. I am so sorry to hear of Mary Ellen’s passing. I have many fond memories of Mary Ellen. She was always a presence in my childhood as Trudy and I were such good friends. Our paths crossed later in my teenage years working together at the Garage restaurant. I remember always thinking how incredibly strong and wise she was. I will miss her. To Fred, Kelly, Connor and Delaney. Paul and I really enjoyed reading the obituary - it captured Mary Ellen perfectly! Fred we remember your mother's delicious baking - in particular the gooey butter tarts. They were amazing! On any of our visits to Tobermory she was always very kind to us. We just want you all to know that we're remembering Mary Ellen and thinking of all of you during this difficult time.
