Obituary of June Godkin-Andrews
GODKIN-ANDREWS, June (nee Rodgers)of Newmarket passed away peacefully at her residence on Sunday, September 30, 2012 in her 79th year. Cherished and much loved Mom of Linda and her husband Chris Williams of Keswick, she will be sadly missed by Jack Andrews, granddaughter Anyta Thomas (Bryan's daughter), Jack's children, many grandchildren, her brother Ken Rodgers of Lion’s Head and sister-in-law Shirley Rodgers of Mar. June was predeceased by her beloved husband Mervin Godkin, loving son Bryan, parents Isabell (Jackson) and Wesley Rodgers, brother Jim and sister-in-law Doris Rodgers.June taught Public School at Kinburn-Constance, and will be well remembered in the Seaforth area, where she and Mervin Godkin farmed for 30 years. June will always be loved for her hospitality, as Mervin and June hosted many ski-doo parties, and sing-alongs with June playing the piano, guitar and harmonica, while Mervin joyfully played the fiddle and kept the party going with his incredibly funny jokes and tricks. June managed the Silver Strings Band which played fairs and dances for three years in the 70's. She has many friends in Largo Florida where she and Mervin spent numerous winters, Mervin fishing and June painting. June is also very well known in the Pike Bay area where she and Mervin retired in a caboose-cottage. Here, June painted and sold over 200 oil paintings that have travelled world-wide. Later, she became an Artist of Photography, and has shot hundreds of photos of amazing sunsets and wild-life etc. If you have ever met June, even once, you will always remember "the most beautiful smile in the whole wide world!"June remarried after Mervin died, and lived happily with Jack Andrews in Cookstown. They moved to Roxborough Retirement Home in June 2011.Family and friends are invited to share their memories at the DAVIDSON CHAPEL, 71 Main Street, Lion's Head on Friday, October 5, 2012 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The funeral service to celebrate June's life will be held at the LION’S HEAD UNITED CHURCH on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 2:00 p.m., followed by interment at Eastnor Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the GEORGE FUNERAL HOME, Wiarton. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society as expressions of sympathy.
