Obituary of John Patrick Garrish
Garrish, Patrick Johndied peacefully in his sleep at Lion’s Head, ON, January 13, 2012. Born in 1936 in Cheam, Surrey, England, the only son of John Edmund and Mary Barbara, he was just a young boy when the Battle of Britain began, and was sent from his home in London to stay with an aunt in the country. As a young man, he took his tour of duty, commissioned as a Lieutenant, eventually serving on deck in the Seven Days War in the Suez. In Canada, he built a new life with his first wife, Gillian Anna Dempsey (deceased), and had two children, John Francis (deceased) with daughter Martine Leslie, and Christopher Robin, with daughters Monique, Raquel and Claire Victoria. After a career that included landscaping, he built a successful career in road construction. It was during this time, that he met his second wife, Mary Barbara. Her family, Michael (wife Catherine, children Geoffrey and Madeleine), Catherine (partner Randy, daughter Martine & husband Mark), Patrick, Daniel (wife Deborah) and Colleen (partner Dave), took him to their hearts. After his retirement and move to Lion’s Head, he was a familiar figure over the past 10 years on the bay, fishing for salmon, and gathering with friends at the local inn. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.Patrick’s family and friends will honour his life at a private gathering. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to the GEORGE FUNERAL HOME, Wiarton. Donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family as expressions of sympathy.
