 Melvin Howard ThompsonIt is with heavy hearts that we announce his passing at Grey Bruce Health Services Lion's Head on Christmas evening December 25, 2014.  Melvin Thompson of Tobermory in his 79th year.  Beloved husband of Mary Ellen (nee Grieves).  Cherished father of Fred and his wife Kelly and Trudy and her husband Dean Morrissey all of Burlington.  Special grandfather of 5 whom he cherished - Cassondra, Matthew, Ryan, Connor and Delaney.  Dear brother of Austin Thompson, Pearl Buckland and Hilda Balls.  Predeceased by his son Eddie, daughter Tammie, brothers Les and Lorne and sisters Cora and Alice.  Mel worked for Upper Lakes Shipping for 25 years and following that for Parks Canada until retirement.  In his spare time, Mel enjoyed working in his garden and doing odd jobs around town.  Mel was a firm believer that 'there's always work available as long as you're willing to do it.'  An avid animal lover, Mel will be missed by his two cats Charlie and Abby.  Private family funeral arrangements entrusted to the GEORGE FUNERAL HOME, LION'S HEAD CHAPEL, Lion's Head.  Spring interment Dunk's Bay Cemetery.  A celebration of Mel's life will take place at the Tobermory Legion on Friday, January 2, 2015 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.  Please join the family and come and share a story about Mel.  In lieu of flowers, expressions of remembrance to Owen Sound Animal Shelter or the Children's Wish Foundation  would be appreciated.  Messages of condolence are welcome through the link below.  The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Appleton, Dr. Harper and all the staff at the Lion's Head Hospital.  A special thank you also to Rob Rouse for his friendship and for looking out for Mel especially during the last difficult months.  A tree will be planted in the Memorial Forest of the Grey Sauble Conservation Foundation in memory of Melvin by the GEORGE FUNERAL HOME. I would like to Send Condolences Back to Notices Home | History | Services | Our Facilities | Notices | Contact Us | Links
