Obituary of Alan Whicher

WHICHER, Alan Battersbyof Colpoy's Bay, Ontario in his 86th year. Beloved husband of Mary E. Whicher (nee Ashley), father of John (Ruth Anne) of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Ashley (Daphne) of Toronto and Anne MacMillan (Kevin) of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, five grandchildren (Andrea, James, Graham, Neil and Heather) and three great grandchildren (Avery, Luke and Ashley). He will be sadly missed by his brother Jim Whicher and his wife Patti of Thunder Bay, sisters Pat Morrow and Phoebe Hall, both of Toronto and sisters-in-law Jean Whicher and Joyce Whicher both of Wiarton. Alan was a successful businessman having started Brough and Whicher Ltd., in Wiarton, Ontario where he worked until his retirement. He was active in public service, serving as a board member and Chair of the Bruce County School Board. He was a devoted member of the church in Wiarton and served faithfully in many leadership roles. His greatest pride was his family and his greatest joy was having them visit the family home on Kribs Road or at Tamarac Island on Lake Huron. Alan was predeceased by his parents Jean (Battersby) and Charles Whicher and brothers Ross and Harry.Visitation will be held at the GEORGE FUNERAL HOME, Wiarton on Friday, August 12, 2011 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The funeral service to celebrate Alan's life will be held at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Gould Street, Wiarton on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Donations to St. Paul's Presbyterian Church would be appreciated by the family as expressions of sympathy.
