Obituary of Wilmer Nadjiwon

Elder of Neyaashiinigmiing on Wednesday, January 3, 2018, began his journey to the spirit world.  Wilmer was the last World War II veteran of Neyaashiinigmiing who had seen combat, founder of the Union of Ontario Indians while serving as Chief of his community for 14 years, world renowned carver and storyteller.  These are just a few of his lifetime achievements.  Wilmer will be sadly missed by his children Marshall Nadjiwon (Sheryl), Anita Nadjiwon (Alice), Wanda Cancade (Ray), Sidney Nadjiwon (Brenda), Wendall Nadjiwon, Wilma Nadjiwon, Guy Nadjiwon, Norma Tobey (William), Asinka Nadjiwon, Derek Ashkewe and Mia Nadjiwon (Atilla).  Deeply saddened are many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Fondly remembered by Janet English, her children and grandchildren.  Predeceased by his parents Charlotte (Penn) and Peter Nadjiwon, first wife Lucie (nee Regimbal), second wife Dolores Ashkewe, son Francis 'Turtle' Nadjiwon, daughter Colleen Nadjiwon Johnson, two grandchildren, one great grandchild, eight brothers and sisters.  Family and friends are invited to share stories and memories at Neyaashiinigmiing Community Centre on Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.  The funeral service will be conducted at the Community Centre on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.   Arrangements entrusted to the George Funeral Home, Wiarton.  Expressions of remembrance to the Maadookii Senior Centre would be appreciated.  Messages of condolence may be sent to the family through www.georgefuneralhome.com
