Obituary of Janet Eva Manderson
MANDERSON, Janet Eva peacefully surrounded by family at Grey Bruce Health Services, Owen Sound Sunday July 18, 2021. Janet Manderson (nee Grantham) of Tobermory and formerly of Georgetown and Oakville in her 78th year. Beloved wife of Bill for 55 years. Loving mother of Stephanie Connell and her husband Grant of Oakville and Emily Manderson and her husband Dimitri Rodrigue of Montreal. Much loved Grandma Jan to Aidan, Kiera and Finley. Dear sister of Tom of Melbourne, John 'Bucky' (Barb) of Baden and Brian (Pauline) of Oakville. Predeceased by parents Ethel (nee Mattimore) and Colin Grantham and brother Donald.
As a young girl, Janet was an accomplished athlete and skater becoming the Ontario Junior Ladies Figures Champion. She also pursued her education at Huron College, University of Western Ontario where she met and married Bill. She cherished the many summers spent at Dunk's Bay with her children and grandchildren teaching them many new things including baking her famous chocolate chip cookies. When she retired to Tobermory, she volunteered at the food bank and pursued her passion for sewing, joining with new friends to make beautiful quilts. Some of her projects were donated to community initiatives but she was most proud of the quilts that she made for her family. Among her many accomplishments, Janet was also a well-respected retired teacher with the Peel District School Board where she was a passionate advocate for her students. She made many life-long friends with whom she shared lively conversations about books, good food and wine, and events of the day. She will always be remembered for her quick sense of humor and sound advice.
