I have lots of happy childhood memories with Poppo… visiting out west and in tobermory, gardening, cribbage. I liked that Poppo could be quite funny. I remember having dinner with him and a couple of high school friends. He called them both by the wrong time the whole dinner and never let on for a second that he knew what he was doing :) I’m also grateful for the lessons and meaning that he brought to my mum’s life. RIP

Dear Gloria and Family:
We at St.Andrew’s United Church, Hepworth have very fond memories of you Gloria, and Albert when you were members of our church for a short time. We particularly welcomed Albert’s participation in our little church choir. We enjoyed his enthusiasm, good humour and friendly spirit.
He even proudly introduced us to your granddaughter Roisin who favoured our service a couple of times with her flute solo.
He will always be remembered by the members of the congregation who were privileged to meet him at that time.
Our sincere sympathy to you and your family.

Dear Gloria and Family,
Liz and I want to extend our heartfelt condolences, thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.
Our time spent with Albert was spent, almost exclusively on Flowerpot Island where we all worked as volunteers maintaining the light station there. We remember Albert's warm smile, sense of humour, his willingness to share his skills and knowledge and most of all, how he always made us feel like good friends.
He will be missed by us.
Sent with love,
Liz and Derek Lasky

Thinking of Albert

It was with sadness that I read of Albert's death. My thoughts are with you all at this precious time of farewell.
As a member of the newly amalgamated Bruce County Board of Education, he with his fellow Board members had a vision for the students of the county that was uplifting and visionary. In addition to providing a solid scholastic program for students, the Board undertook to ensure that every student would have opportunities to discover, understand and appreciate the unique human and natural heritage that was theirs in Bruce County. The Bruce County Outdoor Education Centre was formed. I was indeed privileged, alongside my colleague and supervisor. Clarke Birchard, to develop, teach and, laterally, supervise the program from 1973 to 1998. Albert was part of sculpting that vision, a vision that has enriched the lives of so many students and staff over the years. Despite severe headwinds the program has encountered over the intervening years is still in operation.
Albert also supported the programs through enabling teacher workshops and student excursions. I am forever indebted to him for his leadership all those years ago. It is a legacy of which your family can be very proud.
I would be amiss, if I did not mention However a unique memory I have, that of enjoying one of Albert's shore dinners of boiled potatoes and fresh-caught whitefish on a cobble beach, as the sun set over Georgian Bay. The meal was prepared in a galvanized washing tub, over an open fire. (A whole box of salt was be added to the water to keep the fish firm as it cooked.)
It was another side of this unforgettable man, the fisherman and lifelong lake man.

Dear Gloria and Family:
How very sorry we were to read of Albert’s death and want to assure you of our thoughts and prayers at this time. We share the pain of your loss and offer our deepest condolences. We remember with much joy the day you both joined St. Andrew’s United Church at Hepworth and the contribution you made to the ministry being accomplished there. We know how much you and others will miss Albert but we also know that when death comes to the believer our attitude is one of thankfulness to God for the wonderful promises he gives to us about what is in store for the Christian following death. We regret that we cannot be with you at the service but ask that God may bless you, Gloria, and all your loved ones in this time of loss and may He also give you comfort in knowing that Albert is in His hands and that one day you shall meet again.
