Georgette Henderson

Obituary of Georgette Henderson

HENDERSON, Georgette Marie passed away peacefully with family by her side in her 78th year, at Grey Bruce Health Services Lion's Head on Thursday, November 17, 2022.

Georgette Henderson (nee Laroche) of Lion's Head,  Beloved wife of 55 years to her best friend Robert and cherished mother of Jason (Lori) and Gina (Jodie), all of Windsor.  Much loved grandmother or Meema of Sophie Henderson and also her 'grandbitties'.  Dear sister of Janie Laroche (Wayne) of British Columbia and Emile Laroche of Windsor.  Predeceased by parents Hedwidge (nee Larocque) Arthur Laroche and sister Irene Laroche

Georgette was born and lived most of her life in Windsor, Ontario.  She was first employed as an operator with Bell Canada and afterwards worked at Imperial Life. Later through her marriage to Robert and the raising of her children she opened her own successful catering partnership known as Personal Best Catering.  She was a volunteer with the Scarlet Brigade marching band of which her son was a member. Georgette could always be seen cheering on her daughter's team from the sidelines over the years.

After their retirement she and Robert moved to Lion's Head, having fallen in love with the area during years of annual summer vacations in the Bruce. It was during this time Georgette helped to found the VON SMART exercise and active lifestyle program that operated out of the Lion's Head Friendship Club. She was an active committee member of the Friendship Club and for a time served as the Club's president.   Georgette was a regular attendee of the Club's card games and her name appears several times on the Club's trophy for her many 'Moonshots'.  Along with spending time with her family, she also enjoyed going on 'girl's weekends' with her friends while traveling the country, scenic drives with her husband, regular happy hour's on the back deck in the warm weather and watching British crime series while hunkered down in her favourite chair next to the fireplace during the winter.

As per Georgette's wishes there is no formal service to follow her passing.  Instead a 'Celebration of life' memorial weekend is planned for the spring of 2023, details of which will be released at a later date.  Until then think of her fondly when passing the yellow house on Main Street or when a Gordon Lightfoot song comes on the radio knowing that she is out there somewhere making sure the candy dishes are full for when company stops by.

Private family arrangements entrusted to the GEORGE FUNERAL HOME, LION'S HEAD CHAPEL, Lion's Head.  Expressions of remembrance to the Lion's Head Hospital c/o Bruce Peninsula Hospitals Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.  Messages of condolence may be sent to the family through www.georgefuneralhome.com
